  4. Bedroom closet
  5. Shoe bins
  6. Shoe Racks
  7. Hanging door shoe rack
  8. Wall shoe rack
  9. Built in shoe racks
  10. Shoe cabinets
  11. Unused bookshelf
  12. Shoe cubby
  13. Shoe boxes
  14. Vertical shoe storage
  15. Organize by color/style

1. Room Location

Deciding what room to store your shoes in can depend on how much space and room you have. We would suggest your hallway, bedroom or living room as the best options for storing your shoes, as these rooms usually have the most floor space. Storing shoes in your hallway using shallow vertical shelves to create a shoe landing sport can save time and stress.

    2. Entryway closet

If you have an entryway closet or cupboard in your hallway or entryway, we would highly suggest utilising that space as the best way to store your shoes. You can put up shelving on the walls to make better use of a small closet space. This will keep your shoes off the ground and keep your floor or carpet clean.

      3. Under your bed

Another great way to store shoes is under your bed. If you have a bed frame which is above the ground, you should find you have a lot of space underneath. You can make the most of this space by storing your shoes in under-bed shoe storage cubes, which allow a large number of shoes to be put away neatly and hidden. Storing your shoes under the bed also prevents sunlight from damaging the shoes, because sunlight can cause leather to fade or discolor over time.

      4. Bedroom closet

We recommend your bedroom closet or wardrobe to store most of your shoes, as you can pair them with your clothes and they are kept hidden away from dust, sunlight and odours. Some wardrobes or built-in closets often have shoe racks or shoe storage built in. Using the most of the shelves in your wardrobe or in your closet can be a great way to store your shoes.

      5. Shoe bins

Shoe bins are a brilliant time-saving invention for storing your shoes. Although they may not be the best place to keep your shoes in perfect shape, they are great to keep a multitude of pairs in one space. They also protect your shoes from sunlight, dust and odours. If you find you are not the best at organising or do not worry about your shoes too much, shoe bins are very low maintenance and easy way to store your shoes. If you live with others, especially a big family and want to keep all your shoes separate, simply have a shoe bin for each family member to use!

      6. Shoe Racks

Effective and aesthetically pleasing to the eye, shoe racks can transform your shoe organisation and storage. Relatively affordable and good quality, most shoe racks can hold up to 20-30 pairs of shoes. Utilising your extra floor space for shoe racks can often make your space feel and look more homely.

      7. Hanging door shoe rack

If you find yourself stuck for floor space and do not have enough room for shoe racks, over the door hanging shoe racks are the way to go! You can get these from most homeware stores, and are a great space-saver. Simply hang the shoe organizer over the door like you would a towel or coat rack, and start placing your shoes in the individual pockets!

      8. Wall shoe rack

Similar to shelves, wall shoe racks can store your shoes without the fuss of finding enough floor space for grounded shoe racks. You can DIY wall shoe racks or purchase them, however you decide, your shoes will keep off the ground, and prevent a lot of dust collecting on them. Definitely a brilliant space saver!

      9. Built in shoe racks

Bedroom and living room furniture often have built in shoe storage options! Whether it be shoe racks, shoe cabinets or shelves, utilising the most of your furniture will keep your shoes well-kept and away from dust. Most built-in closet shoe racks will have enough depth to double stack your shoes back to front, to utilize to most of that space.

      10. Shoe cabinets

Do you have an old cabinet you use for miscellaneous objects around the house but you’re not really sure why you have it or what to do with it? Well, you guessed it...this could be one of the best ways to store shoes! Perfect if you want to keep your shoes in a neat space that matches all your décor and furnishings. If you find you can’t fit all your pairs onto the shelves, you should consider adjusting each pair, facing the opposite direction. This will help save extra room, for more pairs of shoes!

      11. Unused bookshelf

A great hack if you have an old bookcase collecting dust, using a bookcase with glass doors or panels can add immediate class and flair. Marketplaces that are selling used bookshelf’s for very good value, and good quality, may be your next idea for how to store shoes.

      12. Shoe cubby

A cubby bench or unit can instantly transform an entryway or living space if you love your trainers and flats. If you have bigger styles of shoes like boots or heels you may want to look into a bigger unit so your shoes have some space.

      13. Shoe boxes

When purchasing a pair of shoes, always ensure to keep the shoe box they come in! She boxes are great to keep your shoes stored and organized as they can be stacked neatly, and keeps your shoes away from dust and sunlight, whilst also keeping the shape of the shoe in perfect condition.

      14. Vertical shoe storage

If you find you are struggling with space whilst trying to store and organize your shoes, you should look into storing your shoes vertically! If you are a lover of flat sandals and have trouble finding the best way to store them, look no further. Grab a magazine holder, or a filing folder, and store all your flat sandals vertically, sole to sole. Color coding them from dark to light can also make them look very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Storing your shoes in any vertical system will ultimately save you space and hassle.

      15. Organize by color/style

To keep your shoes neat and tidy, we would recommend organizing them by color and style. This will prevent you from putting back your shoes in the wrong place and will keep your shoes more organized for longer! You can choose any color system; however, we think keeping all darker colored shoes below lighter ones.

This is so sunlight doesn’t hit them as much, in case the leather starts to fade! Depending on your storage system, we would recommend keeping all your boots sorted with boot shapers or newspaper in them to keep the shape of the leg. The same will go for trainers and ankle boots, so the toe box and uppers do not get misshaped.

What are the benefits of proper shoe organisation?

Proper storage and organisation of your shoes can keep them looking their best and in the finest condition possible for a longer period of time. Whilst storing them properly, you are able to keep the shape and color of the shoe, without having to worry about the leather fading, or the shape of them becoming distorted.

You can ensure your shoes staying in pristine condition, by keeping newspaper or shoe shapers inside the shoe when storing them, and also keeping them out of direct sunlight, as this can often fade the leather easily.

Keeping your shoes organized and neat, will also give you the sense of a decluttered living space, keeping your home looking clean and tidy, without any clutter or mess.

      Now you know...

...the best ways to store shoes! Keeping your shoes organized and stored correctly can keep your most beloved footwear in the most pristine condition possible, while also keeping your home neat and tidy.

Not only can organising your shoes be a great space saver and keep your home tidy, it also can look very aesthetically pleasing depending on you how store them. It is also a great time saver, if you are frantically running around your home trying to find the left shoe of the pair you wanted to wear that day, proper organisation and care will ease your mind.
